Regehr handles colour by layering many textured combinations of oil pigment. This labour intensive technique provides luminescence, transparency and great visual depth. The jewel-like colours remind one of textured enameling and stained glass windows where the light emanates from behind and glows through the subject matter. A strong draftsman, Regehr’s elegant lines delineate every component of his paintings with sensitivity and clarity. These delicately balanced compositions capture the presence and strength of the thoughts and acts of the subjects.
