"The Fox" Graphics

ZORRO was portrayed by artist, Duncan Regehr in the television series produced for New World Pictures and the Family Channel. Regehr filmed a total of eighty-eight episodes in Spain from 1989 through 1992. During that time he continued to paint and write extensively.

The artist's research for developing the roles of Don Diego and El Zorro (The Fox), included character studies of several masked heros and villains from classic literature. The Phantom of the Opera, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Le Renard (The Fox), were among them. His reading also included books by Joseph Campbell: The Masks of God, The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and The Mythic Image.

In 1990, Regehr began making sketches that reflected his thoughts, feelings and experiences with masked and mythic heros. Now, fifteen years later, he has refined a selection of the sketches into a series of works called, "The Fox Graphics."

"The Fox Graphics" ...consists of eighteen pieces that have been beautifully rendered with sepia, ink and prismacolour. The graceful lines and subtle shades of Regehr's images rarefy the man of disguise, revealing the hero as a spirit-like essence. Mask, hat and cape have been stylistically merged to form figures that evoke mystery and power. Human personality traits have been set aside in favour of purer aspects, which establish The Fox as a mythic presence.
