Regehr's investigations of transformation and metamorphosis have given birth to "Chrysalid," a body of work which is made up of four related series, each with it's own definitive view. Powerful oil paintings reveal figures of mythic stature in the midst of transition. Casting off their silken tethers, chrysalid beings enter windswept environments, richly coloured and suffused with golden light. Wax pigments rendered on raw silk convey human chrysalids as they emerge from weavings of moth like opalescence. Meticulous drawings of the ancient Coelacanth fish, portrayed in Darwinian tableaux, galvanize themes of adaptation, survival, genesis and extinction. The chrysalid nature of mummies is emphasized through the media of ink and prismacolour and completes "Chrysalid" as a full circle journey.
A limited edition of the book, "Chrysalid" is available for $45. Includes text and poetry by the artist, as well as images from the series.
